Scale and Views

We are proposing to optimise this currently underutilised site in a way that respects and responds to its sensitive heritage context.

Our proposals include introducing a carefully designed extension on the western side of the building to better align with Abbey Orchard Street and complete its streetscape.

The new element of the building has been carefully designed to consider and respond to neighbouring buildings, with the building height along Abbey Orchard Street ranging from three to seven storeys.

Our proposed scale which includes a 3-storey base on Victoria Street will also allow the Abbey’s west towers to be appreciated against a clear sky as it is approached along Victoria Street.

Taking into account relevant daylight / sunlight guidance, the upper levels will be set back, to allow optimal levels of natural light whilst carefully reducing impact on key views and neighbours.

Full assessments of the visual impacts and daylight/sunlight of the proposals will be submitted as part of the planning application.
